Me & You
and Darkness in View

First Mennonite Church
Sugarcreek, Ohio March 11, 2018
Worship: 9:30-10:30
Fellowship Time: 10:30-11:00
Sunday School: 11:00-12:00

We believe in Jesus and take his life, teachings, death and resurrection
as the model for how we live and the message we proclaim.
We seek to be a caring and discerning community,
the gathered body of Christ,
that welcomes all to join in worship, study, and service.
We embody God’s transforming and redeeming Spirit in the world
through our prophetic witness and action.

Lent 4
Me & You
and Darkness in View

Ringing of the Bell:
Prelude: “Lord Here Am I”—arr. Parks
Welcome & Announcements:
Focus Statement:

Allowing darkness and negativity to come in between people or in between people and God is sometimes easier than the vulnerability of being exposed to the light. What are the things that we don’t want to see that may be standing between you and me?

Time of Meditation: “Gracious Spirit, Dwell with Me”—arr. Leatherman
*Call to Worship:
L: Who comes in the name of God? Step into the light and be known.
P: We are coming, through darkness and fear. We come into the light by the power of God.
L: People of God, God has heard your cries and is opening a way for you.
P: We are here, through darkness and fear. We come into the light of this day by the power of God.
L: You are here, and God is here. What will you do?
P: Together we will worship our God.

~Hearing God’s Word~

Prayers of the People:
Scriptures: John 3:14-21; Ephesians 2:4-10
Message: “Believing and Living in Christ”—by Mike Gehman
All: God of compassion and consequence, some days it’s hard to face who we are. We like to be in control, to know where we are going. Relying on someone else, even you, is hard. We get impatient and find things to criticize. Some of us even like to complain. Glossing over past hardships is easier than admitting that we needed your help, and still do. We don’t want to see how our attitudes and actions make things worse. We are sorry. Forgive our ingratitude. Grant us the courage to face the truth.
*Words of Assurance:

Hymn of Response:
“Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” Hymnal a Worship Book #70

*Sending Hymn:
“Just a Closer Walk with Thee” Sing the Journey #106 (refrain only)

*Postlude: “He Leadeth Me” – arr. Bradbury

*Stand if you are able:

Coffee and Fellowship: A very warm welcome to all who worshipped with us today. After worship you are invited to a time of fellowship in the Gathering Place just outside the sanctuary. This followed by Sunday School for all ages. Ask an usher for the location of classes.
