Community is the Center
of our life
First Mennonite Church
Sugarcreek, Ohio February 4, 2018
Fellowship Time: 10:30-11:00
Sunday School: 11:00-12:00
We believe in Jesus and take his life, teaching, death and resurrection
as the model for how we live and the message we proclaim.
We seek to be a caring and discerning community,
the gathered body of Christ,
that welcomes all to join in worship, study, and service.
We embody God’s transforming and redeeming Spirit in the world
through our prophetic witness and action.
THE CHURCH WORSHIPS TOGETHER________
Community is the Center
of our life
Ringing of the Bell:
Prelude: “I Heard the Voice of Jesus”—arr. Williams
Welcome & Announcements:
“We do not teach and practice community of goods but we teach and testify the Word of the Lord, that all true believers in Christ are of one body, partakers of one bread, have one God and one Lord. Seeing then that they are one,. . .it is Christian and reasonable that they also have divine love among them and that one member cares for another, for both the Scriptures and nature teach this. They show mercy and love, as much as is in them. They do not suffer a beggar among them. They take pity on the wants of the saints. They receive the wretched. They take strangers into their houses. They comfort the sad. They lend to the needy. They clothe the naked. They share their bread with the hungry. They do not turn their face from the poor not do they regard their decrepit limbs and flesh. This is the kind of brotherhood we teach.”
Time of Meditation: “Gentle Jesus, Come and Lead Us”—arr. Gaither
“Unto Thy Temple, Lord, We Come” Hymnal a Worship Book #4
*Call to Worship:
L: Come, follow Jesus to the sacred place where God is, a place of intimate prayer, of open heart.
P: We come, seeking god’s face, pierced by the power of Love’s presence, silent before the glory of divine beauty.
L: Come, follow Jesus to a place of community, to the place where sons and daughters join as one, sharing in the bountiful grace of our Provider.
P: We come, seeking God’s face in our brothers and sisters, we worship, work and play, sharing our lives together.
All: Jesus, lead us to the Holy One that we might see God’s face. Amen.
