First Mennonite Church
Sugarcreek, Ohio February 18, 2018
Fellowship Time: 10:30-11:00
Sunday School: 11:00-12:00
We believe in Jesus and take his life, teachings, death and resurrection
as the model for how we live and the message we proclaim.
We seek to be a caring and discerning community,
the body of Christ,
that welcomes all to join in worship, study, and service.
We embody God’s transforming and redeeming Spirit in the world
through our prophetic witness and action.
THE CHURCH WORSHIPS TOGETHER__________________
Me & You & Creatures Too
Ringing of the Bell:
Prelude: “All Creatures of Our God and King”—arr. Larry Shackley
Welcome & Announcements:
An everlasting covenant is made between God (Me), the people (You), and every living creature. God’s intention for relationship with the earth is inclusive and expansive, yet in our narrow-mindedness, we often exclude. How are we invited to expand our understanding to realize that all are included in God’s covenant?
Time of Meditation: “Let All Things Now Living”—arr. Lloyd Larson
“All Things Bright and Beautiful” Hymnal a Worship Book #156
*Call to Worship:

People: We have come. We are here. We worship God together.

Scripture: Genesis 9:8-17
Message: “God’s Covenant, A New Beginning”—by Mike Gehman
*Confession: in unison
All: God of Creation and salvation, too often we fear there is not enough, and we want to keep what there is for ourselves, including your love, so we build barriers. We want to decide who’s in or out. We fail to see the impact of our selfishness. Help us to value all of your creation—the earth, air, water, and all living creatures both the tame and the wild—the way you do. Help us to preserve and not destroy them. Forgive us for making your love too small. Teach us to act with humility, grace, and mercy as we seek to make things right.
*Words of Assurance:
Hymn of Response:
“This is My Father’s World” Hymnal a Worship Book #154
L: We are the people of God.
P: We are the people of God.
L: We go in God’s love.
P: We go in God’s love.
L: To extend God’s love.
P: To extend God’s love.
L: And live God’s promise.
P: And live God’s promise.
“Just a Closer Walk with Thee” Sing the Journey #106 refrain only
*Postlude: “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”—arr. Larry Shackley
*Stand if you are able:
