“Reconciliation is the Center of our work.”
—From Anabaptist Essentials—Palmer Becker
First Mennonite Church
Sugarcreek, Ohio February 11, 2018
Fellowship Time: 10:30-11:00
Sunday School: 11:00-12:00
We believe in Jesus and take his life, teachings, death and resurrection
as the model for how we live and the message we proclaim.
We seek to be a caring and discerning community,
the gathered body of Christ,
that welcomes all to join in worship, study, and service.
We embody God’s transforming and redeeming Spirit in the world
through our prophetic witness and action.
THE CHURCH WORSHIPS TOGETHER___
Ringing of the Bell:
Prelude: “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” – arr. Kirk
Welcome & Announcements:
“We who were formerly no people at all, and who knew of no peace, are now called to be…a church…of peace. True Christians do not know vengeance. They are the children of peace. Their hearts overflow with peace. Their mouths speak peace, and they walk in the way of peace.”
Time of Meditation: “The Love of God” – arr. Lehman
“Jesus Calls Us Here to Meet Him” Sing the Journey #3 (vs. 1,3)
*Call to Worship: Matthew 5:9, 43-45a
All: “Happy are those who strive for peace—they shall be called to sons of God.
WL: “There is a saying, ‘Love your friends and hate your enemies.’ But I say: Love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In
that way you will be acting as true sons of your Father in heaven…'”
WL: We so easily use and misuse the word
love. We say we love our car,
April: but we can’t stand a co-worker
WL: We say we love this color of fabric,
April: but we snub a brother or sister in Christ.
WL: We make excuses that so-and-so doesn’t deserve our love.
All: Forgive us, gracious God, for not believing or for ignoring your reconciling love shown in Jesus on the cross.
WL/April: With you we can love those we cannot love without you.
All: Through Jesus we pray. Amen.
“Holy Spirit, Come with Power” Hymnal a Worship Book #26 vs. 2

All: As Christ’s reconciling community, let us show compassion and mercy.Let us reflect God’s boundless grace and deal tenderly with anyone who has sinned. Let us make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Let us be a place of pardon and a haven of hope for those in despair.
